I haven’t complained much about getting older (well, don’t ask my family).
However, one sign of aging I dislike the most has been the sagging skin around my jawline.
Some call it a double chin, but I don’t care much for that term either.
It’s simply loose skin along the jawline. Period.
I don’t like it because it really ages the face and it makes your face look fatter than it really is.
If I had to pick a second problem area I dislike, it would probably be droopy eyelids which make the face look tired and sad.
So I was on a quest to find a way to perk up those two areas.
Without surgery, of course.
I came across this concept called face yoga poses which firm and tighten the facial muscles. The surrounding skin also tightens, giving you what looks like a mini facelift.
I was liking this concept very much, so I put it to the test.
I took a face yoga challenge for my neck and jawline and found that these poses, when done consistently, actually do tighten and tone the face.
I also researched facial exercises for my eye area and found some very effective ones which have begun lifting the skin above my eyes.
All without surgery.
So, if you’re struggling with similar signs of aging on your face, here are the seven face yoga poses I use to give me a mini facelift:
1. Stretch and tone your cheek muscles
To slim your face and make your cheeks look less flabby, try this exercise:
Make a “fishy face” by sucking your cheeks and lips inward. Hold that post while attempting to smile. You’ll feel a burn in your checks and chin area. Hold this position for three seconds, then relax. Repeat for five reps.
2. Reduce fat in your cheeks
Gain a younger appearance, tone your face, and reduce the fat in your cheek area with this face yoga pose:
While sitting comfortably, smile as wide as you can. While smiling, take your index and middle finger of each hand and place them on both cheeks.
Press and lift your cheeks toward your eyes and hold for three seconds, then release. Repeat for five reps total.
3. Get rid of your
double chin sagging jawline
Banish that sagging jawline and regain your youth with these facial exercises:
Sit straight and comfortably in a chair. Lift your chin and look up at the ceiling. Pucker your lips and stretch your lips toward the ceiling as if to kiss it. Hold for five seconds, then release. Repeat for five reps total.
Now lift your chin and tilt it at a 45-degree angle. Pucker your lips as if to kiss the corner of the ceiling where the wall meets. Hold this position for five seconds, then release. Complete a total of five reps alternating sides.
While looking straight ahead, stick out your tongue and try to touch the tip of your nose without touching your upper lip. Hold this position for five seconds, then relax. Repeat for a total of five reps.
4. Lift your cheekbones
Get high cheekbones and a more prominent jawline with this lifting exercise:
While sitting comfortably, face forward, keeping your head straight. Push your lower jaw outward while lifting your bottom lip up as far as possible.
Push until you feel the stretch in your chin muscles and jawline. Hold this posture for five seconds then relax. Repeat for a total of five reps.
5. Lift droopy eyelids
Open hooded eyes by lifting droopy eyelids with these face yoga poses:
Place your index and middle finger of each hand just above both eyebrows. Apply downward pressure as you raise both eyebrows as if you’re surprised. Hold this position for three seconds then release. Do five reps of this exercise.
Next, place your index and middle finger of each hand just under both eyebrows. Push your fingers up and close your eyes, feeling the resistance. Hold this position and contract your eye muscles for three seconds then release. Repeat for five reps.
6. Get rid of eye bags
Reduce wrinkles and bags under your eyes with this unusual (but very effective) face exercise:
Look straight ahead, drop your lower jaw and form your mouth in the shape of an “O”. Pull down far enough to feel a stretch in your cheeks, and under your eyes.
While in this position, and without moving your forehead, look up with your eyes. Now squint your eyes for five seconds. Repeat for a total of three reps.
7. Lift the forehead
Lift the skin on your forehead for a smoother, younger look with this facial pose:
Place the inside of both hands along your hairline. While applying firm pressure, push your hairline back. Keep this pressure as you look down towards the floor with just your eyes.
Feel the contraction as you breathe in and out. Hold this pose for five seconds then relax. Repeat for three reps total.
