Lemons are a fruit that’s relatively easy to find, yet they’re packed full of skin-boosting nutrients that make them essential for an everyday skin care routine.
Loaded with vitamin C, lemons exhibit anti-aging properties. Lemons contain natural acids which gently remove dead skin cells and lighten age spots, acne marks, and clears facial discolorations. The acidity content absorbs any oiliness and cleanses the pores without stripping the skin of its natural oil balance.
And what’s more, lemons improve the appearance without the use of harsh chemicals or toxins. So if you’re ready to improve your skin care routine using lemons, here are seven ways they can enhance your daily beauty routine.
1. Reduce the appearance of wrinkles
Lemons are loaded with vitamin C which has many anti-aging properties. By taking advantage of this super ingredient, you can create a simple facial mask that will, over time, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
In a small bowl, add one tablespoon of honey, five to 10 drops of fresh lemon juice, and three to five drops of sweet almond oil. Mix ingredients into a paste. Apply this on the face and keep it on for 15 to 20 minutes then rinse with lukewarm water. Repeat once or twice a week for best results.
2. Banish blackheads
The astringent and antibacterial properties of lemons promote the elimination of waste and excess oil on the skin. They also promote the elimination of toxins and deeply clean the skin. This makes lemons great allies in getting rid of those annoying blackheads and keeping the pores clean.
Simply rub some lemon juice on your problem areas and let it sit for up to 10 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly with cold water. It’s best to do this before bed to avoid exposure to the sun following this regimen.
3. Fade dark marks and spots
Citrus fruits, especially lemons, are very effective in fading acne scars, age spots, and dark marks. By applying the juice of lemons to the affected area, you’ll notice a decrease in spots over time. Lemons contain citrus acid which helps in bleaching and clarifying the skin.
4. Uncover soft, kissable lips
I’ve always been a little obsessed with keeping my lips moisturized and soft. From sugar scrubs to expensive balms, I’ve had my share of experiments to uncover kissable lips.
One of the most effective remedies I’ve found, though, has been lemon juice. Lemons contain natural exfoliant properties, so all it takes is rubbing a small lemon wedge on your lips for about 30 seconds then rinsing to get rid of dead skin cells.
5. Enjoy oil-free skin
Using lemon as a toner is a great way to get smooth, oil-free skin. Since I have super-oily skin, I love using lemons to cut down the shine. Simply combine juice from one lemon, six to eight cucumber slices, and cold water into an eight-ounce jar. Add a few lemon slices into the toner as well. Apply the mixture to your face daily after cleansing using a cotton ball or pad. To store, place it in your refrigerator for up to five days.
6. Scrub away acne
The antibacterial properties of lemons are said to acne-fighting abilities. Adding lemon juice to this face scrub makes it very effective on oily skin. And it’s not as harsh as acne medications.
To make this scrub, you will need freshly squeezed lemon juice from 1/2 a lemon, two to three tablespoons of rolled oats, and enough water to make a coarse paste. Massage this onto your face for about 30 seconds then rinse with warm water.
7. Freshen up your armpits
Back in the day, women used to rub lemon peels under their arms to get rid of the odor. And lemons are still a good natural deodorant today because of their antibacterial and antifungal properties. For a full-body fresh feeling, add the juice of two lemons to a tub of water and enjoy being odor-free all day.
These are just seven ways you can use lemons to improve your skin care routine. How else do you use lemons in your daily beauty regimen?
