Open your pores and uncover clear, glowing skin with this homemade facial steam. Not only is it relaxing, but an herbal facial is one of the best home remedies for your skin. It softens blackheads, gets rid of excess oil and dead skin cells, and cleanses away other impurities–all without drying the skin.
Back in my early skin care days–as a teen–I would do steam facials a lot. I loved how clear, smooth and dewy my skin looked afterwards. The results were so good, I got my sisters, mom, and even my dad to try it.
I started out with using just pure steam–no herbs. And the results were still pretty good. But when I learned about herbal facial steams to deep clean skin, it was a game-changer.
Before sharing my homemade facial steam recipe, I want to address some questions you may have about herbal facials used to clear pores.
1. Is it good to steam your face?
Steam is not good for for all. Hot and steamy things on the face can dilate the blood vessels in the skin. This can cause problems for those prone to redness and sensitivity.
For others, steaming is a great way to cleanse the pores. Steam helps in dilating the pores, making it easier to remove blackheads and dirt. It’s also great for releasing toxins and promoting blood circulation.
2. Which herbs can you use to steam your face?
- Cleansing: Hibiscus, Peppermint, and Lemon Balm
- Anti-aging: Chamomile, Rosemary, Geranium, Sandalwood and Frankincense.
- Dry skin: Lavender, Rose, and Chamomile
- Oily skin: Basil, Sage, and Tea Tree
- Acne-prone: Tea Tree and Peppermint
- Hydration: Calendula and Dandelion
3. What’s the best way to steam your face?
A homemade facial steam can be as simple as boiling a pot of water on the stove, then adding in your herbs. An even easier and faster solution is to use an electric kettle then pour the boiling water over your herbs in a ceramic or glass bowl.
I love this COSORI electric kettle because its made of the finest quality borosilicate glass which resists scratching and scuffing. And no plastics touch the boiling water–not even the lid.
4. How many times a week should you steam your face?
When it comes to herbal facial steaming, less is more. Aim for once a week to get the best benefits.
