Do you look your age or older?
Three areas that reveal your age are your skin, eyes, and lips.
Do you remember those pictures of you in your early twenties? The last time I was at my parents’ house, I was looking through some old photos of the family. Some made me cringe, but there were some of those good years–my twenties. You may remember those years when your skin was tight, clear and smooth with a natural dewy complexion. You didn’t even give a thought about wrinkles. What? Wrinkles? That’s for old folks. And that time was a long way off.
Or so we thought.
Time keeps going and one day you look in the mirror and wonder when did those changes happen?
One thing I learned is that as we get older, our skin starts to produce these little lines and creases. Our once tight pores begin to open up like craters, and our skin loosens up and loses its firmness. How soon we start to show these signs of aging varies from person to person based on genetics, our diet and the products we use. So learning how to slow down this aging process is really worth the time spent.
What if you could shave five to 10 years off your face with eating well, facial exercises, and three simple homemade natural beauty recipes? It is possible. And not only will this help you look younger, it will also keep your body healthy and fit.
If you want a younger appearance and a healthier body, try these homemade natural beauty recipes and regimens that are relatively simple to do.
DIY beauty recipe for your skin
If we’ve learned anything from advertisements, a dewy, smooth complexion says healthy and youthful. But it’s not just what you put on your face that matters, but also what you put in your body as I talk about in my post on getting rid of oily skin.
Drinking the recommended amount of water each day can help to plump up the skin and smooth out wrinkles without the use of harmful chemicals.
You may be wondering, how much is enough? Well, drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day is a good place to start. Some experts say to drink one-half of your body weight in water. What’s important is that you keep your body well-hydrated. And just so you know, waiting until you feel thirsty is actually too late–you’re already dehydrated at that point.
One more thing: if you really want gorgeous skin, you have to watch what you feed your face. A clear skin diet includes plant-based, whole foods that aren’t processed or bathed in oil. Your skin gets its nutrients from the blood and generates some by-products such as oil and dead skin cells. It needs to be kept in balance with good nutrition in order to thrive.
Once we’re getting the right amount of water and eating foods that heal, our topical skin treatments will have a more lasting effect. If you’re looking to diminish the appearance of wrinkles on your face, here’s a great DIY beauty recipe to try.
Your eyes reveal your age
It’s said that the eyes are the windows to our soul–they’re also a snitch about our age. Those tiny little lines affectionately called crow’s feet are giving away the secret that we’re no longer 25. But it doesn’t have to be that way–at least not yet.
The skin around our eyes is thin and delicate and has to be treated like a delicate little rosebud. Even which finger you use to apply eye cream can make a difference (btw, you should use your ring finger when applying product around the eyes).
While there are many homemade and natural products for the eye area that help tremendously, there are other remedies that help. I found that face yoga poses can be beneficial is smoothing out the area around the eyes, minimizing the appearance of wrinkles.
Got you interested? Try this:
1. While looking straight ahead with your forehead relaxed, take a few deep breaths.
2. Place your index and middle fingers of both hands on your hairline near the edge of your eyebrows.
3. From the outer corner of your eyes, pull your fingers up at an angle. You should feel the stretch in your crow’s feet area.
4. While holding this position, squint for five seconds. Relax for two seconds then repeat. Complete five reps.
I share other face yoga poses for firming the entire face on my post about facial exercises for a natural facelift.
Pucker up for these homemade natural beauty recipes
Who doesn’t like to pucker up for a kiss? But have those lip lines and wrinkles made you a little reluctant? Don’t worry. I’ve got you covered.
Smoothing out the lip lines involves a combination of DIY recipes and specific face yoga poses for the lip area. Two of my favorite recipes are below:
Exfoliating Lip Scrub
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp honey
Mix well. Gently rub mixture over lips for up to one minute. Rinse off with cool water. Use 2 to 3 times a week for best results.
Lightening Lip Treatment
1 tbsp sweet almond oil
Squeeze the juice of half a lemon into the sweet almond oil. Mix well. Lightly massage lips with oil at bedtime. Wash off in morning.
To sum it all up, if you want healthier, younger-looking skin you have to take care of it from the inside out. By watching what you eat, applying homemade natural beauty recipes and practicing facial exercises, you can look younger longer.
