I remember sitting in a conference room with my coworkers at my former job. It was a few minutes before our weekly meeting began and I was chatting with the person next to me.
Mid-conversation, my coworker stopped and asked me, “Are you okay? Are you getting too hot in here?”
Confused as to why she asked that question, I responded, “Why do you ask?”
“Well,” she said, “your face looks like you’re sweating.”
Oily skin strikes again.
I couldn’t escape it, so I believed, so I had begun to embrace it. I even told myself that having oily skin would mean my skin would always be soft, smooth and moisturized, at least.
Yeah, wishful thinking.
My oily face has always suffered from dry, rough patches–that is until I discovered these green, anti-aging face scrubs. They’re organic and non-toxic so even my sensitive skin loves them.
They gently slough away the dead skin cells, uncovering glowing, soft and youthful-looking skin.
And the best part is these anti-aging face scrubs are DIY, so just a few minutes in the kitchen and you’re looking at a clean, green, face-transforming product that your skin is sure to love.
Because I’m always short on time (you know my story), I made sure these facial scrubs were quick and easy to whip up in the kitchen (or even in the bathroom!). So if you’re ready to uncover smooth, glowing skin, then let’s start mixing these all-natural anti-aging face scrubs.
Apple Cider Soda Scrub
Exfoliate, fight acne and remove blackheads
1 tbsp baking soda
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (this is the one I use and like the best…and I’ve tried many)
1/2 tsp raw honey
1-2 drops lavender essential oil
This is my go-to face scrub. I use this one the most because it’s easy to mix, I usually have the ingredients on hand, and it’s very effective.
In a small bowl, add the baking soda and stir gently as you add in the apple cider vinegar. Once thoroughly mixed, add in the honey and lavender and combine well. You can store the mixture in an air-tight container.
To use, take about a teaspoonful of the mixture and rub it gently on damp face. Massage it over your face in a circular motion for 30 – 60 seconds. Rinse with cool water and pat dry.
Coconut & Lemon Facial Scrub
Lighten dark marks and uncover radiant skin
3 tbsp rice flour
2 tsp coconut oil
1 tsp lemon juice
Lemon juice is great for lightening acne scars and dark marks (and here are six other amazing ways lemons can improve your skincare routine). The rice flour has wonderful oil-absorbing properties and it’s also effective in gently brightening the skin.
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and stir until moist. Massage into skin for three minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water.
Green Tea Facial Scrub
Prevent wrinkles and banish blemishes
This recipe is one of my favorites for fighting wrinkles and blemishes. Many green tea scrubs call for granulated sugar, but I prefer to use brown sugar. It has smaller particles, so it seems gentler and less abrasive on my skin. However, brown sugar is still strong enough to scrub away dead skin cells to uncover a more radiant glow.
Simply mix all ingredients in a small bowl until well combined. Store in an air-tight container in a cool, dark place.
To use, take about a teaspoonful of the mixture and rub it gently on damp face. Massage it over your face in a circular motion for 30 – 60 seconds. Rinse with cool water and pat dry. You can also use this as a body scrub.
Anti-Aging Coconut Rice Mask
Minimize the appearance of pores and tighten skin while maintaining moisture.
1/4 cup rice flour
3 tbsp coconut milk
1 tbsp raw honey
Coconut milk contains high levels of vitamin C which helps to maintain the flexibility and elasticity of the skin. Not only does coconut milk moisturize the skin, it also combats dryness, redness, itchiness, and promotes healthy, glowing skin.
Add the rice flour, milk and honey into a blender and blend until creamy. Apply a thick layer of the mixture to clean face using a facial brush or cotton pad and let it sit for 30 – 45. Then gently massage the mixture into the skin before rinsing with lukewarm water.
As with any exfoliant, I only use these anti-aging facial scrubs two to three times a week and follow up with my star anise skin-tightening toner and my anti-aging moisturizer. In between scrub days, I reach for my Bask & Bloom Rhassoul & Bentonite Clay Shampoo Bar (which doubles as a detoxifying facial cleanser).
Adding a facial scrub to your skincare routine can do wonders for your skin. And using clean, green, all-natural ingredients will keep your skin healthy and glowing.
